Accommodation=Dhimmitude

Tasha Kheriddin nails it re a local school being turned into a temporary mosque (with girls who are "unclean" due to their monthly bloody visitation forced to sit seperately lest they "defile" the others) for the sake of "accommodation" and convenience:
"Faith needs" should not supersede the right to equality in publicly funded institutions. In a pluralist society such as Canada, parents are free to teach their children whatever beliefs they please -in private and on their own time -however offensive those beliefs might be to others.
Exactly. Society's message must be: Do your misogyny on your own time on your own dime.

I agree that Ms. Kheiriddin is spot on with her column, but I have one quibble. Namely, the conclusion:

"The picture tells more than a thousand words. It is a wake up call."

I have to wonder why Ms. Kheiriddin has only now experienced this wake-up call, when the evidence of Islamic privilege and blatant misogyny, both here and abroad, has been obvious for years to anyone with even marginal sensory capability. Was it mere naivete on her part that kept her in the dark, or willful ignorance?

"One is tempted to say: Is this the Middle Ages?"

Have you seen the average Islamic country in recent years, Tasha? If you didn't know it was 2011, the sheer plethora of camels and roasted goat carcasses would convince you it was the 9th century.

"Have I stumbled into a time warp, where "unclean" women must be prevented from "defiling" other persons?"

No. You've just stumbled into the Stone Age practices of "modern" Islam. Welcome and have a seat (but make sure you sit in back if you're menstruating, filthy infidel woman).

Ah well. At least she's woken up now. She'll be in a better position to protect herself and her daughter from the effects of creeping shariah now that she's informed.

I look forward to your demands for the desegregation of orthodox synagogues and the ordination of female catholic priests.

Yeah, those Jews and Catholics and their sharia law...

Sorry, you seemed to be mocking religions with a history of stupid gender-based bias - you know, Islam, Christianity, Judaism. You weren't?

Mocking? Moi? Surely not.

My dear fellow, I clearly did you a grave injustice.

There are two kinds of bloggers who rail against the abuse of women under the mantle of Islam.

There are the folks who believe that Judaism, Christianity and Islam - the bronze and iron age western monotheisms - enshrined ancient superstitions about the subservience of women as Divine Will.

Then there are the ideologues who cherry pick the misogyny they approve of versus the misogyny that coincides with their own loathings.

If you're one of the folks who deplores the primitive forms of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism for their discrimination against women, then please accept my apology for having mistaken you for a a common or garden variety Islamophobe.
