Yoga Is Bad For You

As a physical therapist, I can vouch for the fact that many yoga positions place severe stresses on various joints. Of course practitioners are going to be injured. And, of course, the health claims for it are . . . well, let's say they are outside the standard biomedical model.

I never cease to be amazed how people who consider themselves to be sophisticated and cosmopolitan will nevertheless fall for nostrums--homeopathy, aroma therapy, reflexology, acupuncture . . . you name it--as long as they are sufficiently exotic. I guess telling people to exercise moderately but regularly, follow a sensible diet, and follow a regular routine with enough sleep to feel rested in the morning does lack exotic appeal.
