When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Write Songs

Wrote most of this in the shower, trying to wash last night's election disaster right out of my hair:

When things are looking brightest
And your ship has just come in.
The boss who's mean has just been fired,
Your lott'rey numbers win.
Remember that it may not last
So try hard not to cluck.
Be careful what you wish for
'Cut it may turn out to suck.

They've put up lots of windmills
'Cuz they hate that gas and oil.
It fouls up the whole planet
And contaminates the soil.
The energy's "renewable"
But birds get plucked and stuck.
Be careful what you wish for
'Cuz it may turn out to suck

The scent of freedom's in the air--
An intoxicating balm.
They're certain "peace" will soon break out--
An endless, blissful calm.
Arabs cheer in Tahrir Square,
So full of dash and pluck.
Be careful what you wish for
'Cuz it may turn out to suck.

A POTUS in the White House
Who's made promises galore.
For hope!
For change!
For caring! Yes!
For "FORWARD"
And for more.
Four more years of Obama,

You can't believe your luck!
Be careful what you wish for
'Cuz...for sure it's gonna suck!
